I found a buck tag on screwed to the top of the inner fender on the
driver's side on a 66 Convertible. Can anyone tell me what any of it
means?
% 114
19 M4 6T08T165707
76A T 25
RM
TOP-T CLEAR
The S/N is 6T08T165707. It appears to have originally been red
(T=Candyapple Red ?), and it last had a white convertible top (very well
could be original but don't know for sure). Is the 25 the interior color
code? or maybe the DSO? The car dosen't have any of the interior in it
so I'm not sure what color it was originally. The dash and dash pad are
black. I'm not sure what all these codes are supposed to describe, so
I'm not sure what else to tell but please fire away with questions. The
door data plate is gone and there is no chance of finding a build sheet.
I'd sure like to find out what I can about the car, and help in Jeff's
research if I can in any way.
TIA
Ben

participated in earlier this year we can identify the following
% = C/O or customer order (most likely a car ordered and built for a
specific buyer - not unusual during that time period)
114 = Rotation number (a number assigned to the unibody during the
body and trim process in this example
19 = the number of the welding station that began the building
process
M4 = the projected build date (many times varies from the date shown
on the door tag or the buildsheet)
6T... = the VIN
76A = standard interior convertible
T = exterior color (candy apple red in this case)
25 = interior style and color
RM = Common thought is that this may be remote mirror or rocker panel
moulding
TOP-T = Style (power or manual) and color of top
CLEAR = may relate to clear (rather than tinted) glass or windshield
Hope this helps

Red vinyl and red rosette vinyl ?

I'll check the rockers for signs of rocker panel moulding and report back.

It seems to have original power top- would the color code indicate white
or ?

I'll check the car and report back. The glass in it has some very old
state stickers in it- it certainly looks old enough to be original. I
thought it was tinted but will check.

Yes it does! Thanks!

I think there's no doubt that "TOP-T" means a white
p/top with plastic rear 'curtain'. These codes were
used at several points in the process, not least of
which was on the Hollerith cards used for ordering.
The encoding system was shared across car lines, even
where they did not share certain options. For example,
its generally recognized the 1966 Mustang convertible
had no optional glass rear window - but other Ford cars
did and "T" consistently signified "power/white/plastic",
even where this last bit of info is somewhat redundant.
