What's the best way to determine if my 65 wiper motor is a one spd or a 2 spd by looking only at the motor itself? It has a 3 prong connector coming out of the side. Also- Can anyone point me to an article or povide me some info that shows how to reuild it? If I wanted to hook a battery to it to test, which 2 terminals should I hook the 12 volts across?

Thanks-
Adam

Well if your wiper switch is one speed then that's probably all the
indication you need that you have a one speed motor. But you can also tell
because, as you say, the motor has the 3 wire connector (as mine did in my
66). If you're wanting to test it, you could use a voltmeter to test
voltages of the wires when your wiper switch is on. That would probably give
you a good indication of which wire is which.

If you're looking to upgrade to 2 speed and intermittent, see a thread from
several weeks ago. I did just that. Nothing very complicated about it, and
it was very cheap using stuff I got at the local wrecking yard ($20). It
also allowed me to use my existing wiper knob, so the appearance is stock.
Again, see that prior thread for more details, or feel free to ask me any
questions.

If you're looking to remain completely stock and your motor isn't working,
I've got my old working 1 speed motor that I would be willing to part with.

Any more questions ask away - I'd be glad to help! Obviously my experience
is with a 66, but I'd imagine it's identical to the 65.

Jeff-
Thanks for the advice. The wiper motor is out of the car and the switch that was in the car appears to have only 2 positions. Just curious though because the motor has 3 electrical contacts and since the car did come as a project, didn't want to take it for granted. Thanks for the offer of the motor. I'll let you know.
Adam

There are separate wires for "park" (return to "off" position) and "power".
I don't remember why there are 3 though because the motor's case is grounded
through a separate wire, but maybe the 3rd is also ground. The 2 speed
motors have 4 wires (the additional being for the extra speed). You might
find it easier to test the motor with the switch hooked up to it, assuming
the switch is also out of the car. It just takes ground and power, and a 3rd
wire goes to the windshield washer. The power wire isn't part of the
switch's harness. Instead it is an individual orange wire. That's how it is
on a 66 anyway. Oh, and if you haven't already thought of this, using a
battery charger is a good way to test it out of the car. On mine, I just had
to change the mode to manual rather than the 2 amp/10 amp/50 amp mode.

Again, unless you want it to be truly stock, I suggest upgrading it as I
did, especially since the unit isn't even in your car at this point. It was
fun going to the wrecking yard and finding what I needed was pretty easy,
and let me tell you, I am so glad I upgraded. Of course I live in rainy
Oregon! smiling smiley
