64-1/2 Rear Spring to axle locator pin changes?

I just got a set of 5-leaf springs from Canadian Mustang yesterday. Only
one slight problem... The center bolt, that extends up through the spring
and should go into a hole in the axle bracket - is about 1/4" high off the
surface of the spring. My old one is about 1/2" high. Looks like the hole
in the axle starts about 1/4" above the surface of the spring. So, the
pin in the Canadian Mustang springs won't go into the hole in the axle,
and therefore, won't locate the axle fore/aft. Bummer.

I suspect that (my car was built in the first week or so of the '65
production) I've got a 64-1/2 axle and spring (I've got other 64-1/2
parts). Maybe Ford did a cost reduction (shorten center bolt pin, change
axle bracket to match). And the new springs use the '65 design. Canadian
Mustang says that they don't have any longer pins... "they're all like
that" they say.

Options are:

1) use center bolt / pin from old springs - nope, threads not long enough
(old spring: 4 leaf... new: 5 leaf)

2) Find machine shop to make new bolt/pin? Sure... I'm an engineer. I
can make the drawing... But is there an easier (less expensive)
solution??? Course on the other hand, this could be the opportunity I
need to buy a lathe...

Surely someone must have run across this before...
