Hey all hows it goin tonite. Got a question that I asked earlier but
didnt get much feed back, so thought I'd try again. I am going to build
up a 6-cylinder to drop in a my 66 coupe that already house a stock 32
year old stock 6-cylinder. I want to take a 6-cylinder that I have
found, rebuild it with alot of very hot modified parts, and woop some
@$$ on some 5.0 peeps. Does anyone know about hopping one up? Or has
done it? If so mail me or the list all the info you know, or where I
could get alot of info on Hot parts (and by hot I mean fast, not
stolen). Thanks to all that reply!!!
Thanks,
Daniel

I hate to rain on your parade, but without spending *big* bucks you're not
going to get even close to V8 power. If you want to stick with 6 cylinders
and want to do something wild, why not look at dropping a supercoupe
engine? (I have no idea if this is feasible).

Clifford Performance has a bunch of stuff for a 6 cyl. Try the 4WD magazines,
they have ads in most of them. Its going to be tough, it would be easier to
run a 302, but then again I dont listen either...good luck

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but a couple of ford magicians
here in Canberra have built 250 CID x-flow 6s running 500-650 Holleys that
make my Mustang look pedestrian. These suckers go like there is no
tomorrow. I don't race them coz I know I cannot compete ( sob, sob !).
Ford Australia brought out a new line of cars in 1980, using a new
aluminium head x-flowed inline 6 that was a reasonable goer. The rev-heads
got them and played with them and look OUT ! Talk about sleepers - sound
like rice-burners, go like a cut cat !!

I should be starting on my turbo EFI L6 engine project this winter
for my '70 Mach1 daily driver -- I'm shooting for 12's and 30mpg.
I will NOT be spending big-bucks,
but gonna be using time, technology, ingenuity, and hard work.
But I will agree that without a turbo the L6 isn't going to
woop anything..

In some old articles I've mentioned previously,
Ford reported 250+hp@4000rpm at the rear wheels
of a 1968 Mustang with doctored 240CID engine.
The only mods one might call expensive were a
set of custom headers and a custom intake with
3 carburetors...all fabricated using the stock
stuff as a guide. They also stroked it, using
300CID truck parts.
Considering the horsepower figure is *equal* to
what you'd get from a 67-68 GT-500 (non-KR) and
those mods are the sort of thing any reasonably
skilled mechanic could accomplish, I think its
fair to say a 6 can be competitive without great
cost. Frankly, given its light weight & better
balance, I'd bet few of us have a car that could
keep up through straightaways _and_ esses.
