I'll give it a shot!

Art Carr has just the flexplate for you- it's what I'm running in my
5.0/C4 '65 2+2. He's a great guy, too. In the back of the rags is where
you'll find him.
The 5.0s use an external electric fuel pump; if you use the early model
timing cover, you'll need a block-off plate for the fuel pump hole. Also,
don't forget to re-install the front oil slinger (like I did) or you'll
dribble oil all the time. There's also the 5.0 dipstick hole which needs
to be blocked off from underneath- it runs through the block. Most shops
should have an assortment of SBC oil-hole block-off pins just for this
purpose. Do this or you'll blow oil all over your headers from the middle
of the block- ask me how I know. You'll need to re-use your oil pan too,
and pick-up, naturally. You should also be aware that if you use the
early timing chain cover, your timing pointer won't be anywhere NEAR
correct on the 5.0 balancer, which you'll need to use. This necessitates
a serpentine belt conversion, of course...
...or you can do the full 5.0 front dress and get a custom radiator (or
go with a universal hose kludge). I think Windsor-Fox has such a beast.
Give Windsor-Fox a call; I think they specialize in this sort of madness.
They advertize in the back of Super Ford/Mustang Monthly. Try Dark Horse
Performance too.
Oh yeah- get a fancy-schmancy distributor for 5.0s too, like MSD or such.
I'm not sure, but I don't think you can re-use yours; needs to have a
compatible cam gear, for sure, and the 5.0 is computer-y so it has a
computer-y distributor. I got a racing MSD billet and a 6AL box and
pretty much solved THAT one.

Mine too; the FI is nice but a PITA to get under the hood.

That'll work fine- mine's a '91. It isn't as bad as it sounds; just took
a little planning, is all. Think it through as completely as you can-
keeps the "uh-oh"s to a bare minimum.

Thanks John,
Does anyone know for sure about the distributor? Can i just use my old
Autolite + Pertronix with a swap to a steel/bronze gear, or must I go
with:
a) late model with Duraspark
b) aftermarket.

The key question is, "What kind of metal is the cam gear made of?" and if
you match the metals up (steel/steel) with the distributor gear, I
imagine it'll be okey-dokey. There was a Fordnatics post on this very
subject, is all.
Apparently, the Duraspark is reliable, and the MSD box isn't. My 6AL
threw in the towel 45 miles from home, and I couldn't manage to by-pass
the box successfully. Thanks, AAA+ !
Personally, I'm gonna try to by-pass my MSD and be able to drive without
fear again. The NASCAR guys have *two* MSDs in the car, and if one goes
south, they flip a switch and voila! Lucky stiffs.
