Seeing how I just totalled my 88 Grand Marquis 5.0, what can I
use from this to make the swap? The appraiser from the at-
fault driver's company comes out tomorrow.

I was thinking engine/intake/FI, computer, inertia switch, all
the wiring that goes with it. Anything else I need to get? Is
the AOD-E worth anything, or is it better that I test it's
bouyancy on Old Hickory Lake? ;-)

Neil

Check out baumannengineering.com/ for AOD-E info.
They think it's a good tranny...

Hi,

The AOD has the advantage of the overdrive gear. Thus you will get better
gas mileage on the Interstate than with the C4 or C6. Of course the AOD is
less efficient than the C4 so if you want to race the car it would be a good
idea to have the AOD rebuilt with performance parts.

There have been several articles on putting a late model 5.0L EFI/AOD into
the first generation mustang in the various Mustang Mags (Mustang Monthly
and others). There are also some companies out there that make the parts
needed to perform the swap (the company's name is Windsor something). I
remember that a new transmission cross member is needed for the AOD swap.
There is also a problem with the water pump as the hoses come out wrong for
the first generation radiator, so a radiator swap or something like that is
needed.

Let me know if you can't find the articles, I can search though my stacks
and see what I can find. I'm sure that I kept them as I have played with
this idea for a while. I really like how the EFI systems perform when
compared to the old point/carb setup and the AOD is much better for high
speed cruising than my C4. Of course it would be kind of nice to find a
good 351 and convert it so EFI. Just takes time and money (both of which
are in short supply).
