4.6 DOHC in a '66 Fastback? Crazy!

Two words: GOOD LUCK!
I've never seen a 4.6 DOHC up close and personal.. But from the pictures
I'd bet it's too wide to fit. Those heads are HUGE! It'd probably fit it
in a '67-'73 though.
So, lets say you got it to fit... You'll definately have to get custom
headers made. And what about a tranny? I assume you'de stick a T-5 or
something in there, just hope the shifter comes up in the right place!.....
Oh, did I mention that he'll have to fabricate his own motor mounts for
this swap?
I can't recall seeing a 4.6 in a classic Mustang, and I certainly wouldn't
want to be the first. Or the second. But I think I vaguely recall seeing
pictures of this.
Personally, I'd acquire the 4.6 DOHC and sell it to some SN95 guy with a 6
or a 4.6 SOHC for a profit. Then with the cash made off the deal, build up
a 351W.
All of this, IMHO, of course.

Take a look at the new Mustang Monthly magazine, they are doing a write up
of a 4.6 DOHC into a 66 mustang as we speak...Check it out.... It can be
done(with alot of plasma cutting of the firewall, and removal of the original
shock towers)(Nobody said it was going to be easy)...

There was an article from a couple of years back where someone installed
a SOHC 4.6 engine into a 1969 Mach I. This required chopping out the
inner half of the shock tower. I can imagine that installing the DOHC
4.6 engine might involve removing the entire shock tower. This is
obviuosly a very radical modification to the body. In fact, to
facilitate such a swap, one might consider swapping in the front
suspension of a Mustang II/Pinto. It's more compact all around; its coil
over shock assembly in between the control arms will allow the removal of
the shock towers, and the R&P steering gear opens up room in the frame
rails (no more steering gear on the left, and no more idler arm on the
right) and the power assisted version has much better hose routing.
Of course, the R&P steering will provide more precise steering when you
get the car back on the road. God! I wish I had the skills to do this
to my Mach!

Thanks for everyone's responses... I forwarded each onto my buddy... We
had several good laughs... He's going out and getting the mags that were
referenced.
Don't know if he'll do it though... But, he does work for Ford, and
thinks he can do anything... When you see people installing any part in
60 seconds on trucks all day, it sort of puts a different perspective on
things...
