Hey I was looking to build up a 6 cylinder to put in my 66 coupe because
it is cheaper than the build up of a V-8 and discs and tranny and
rear-end. I was looking to make alot; (or better said) as much power as
possible out of a 6-cylinder. I know that there is the 160ci, the
200ci, the 240ci; and I recently found out that there was such a thing
as the 300ci 6-cylinder. To me this sounds to be the big block of the
6-cylinders. It sounds good, especial for being that the 289 is a V-8,
the 300 I-6 must have huge pistons and such. Well on to my questions.
Does anyone know any info about this motor? Any specs or anywhere where
I can get info on it. It sounds to be a cool motor, but want some info
on it first. If anyone knows about it, please respond. Thanks to all.

Thanks,

Daniel

Hearsay evidence says the 300 ci 6 won't fit under a stock hood.

I think...

Any build up of 6 to a motor that approaches the strength of a v8 should
certainly include upgrading the suspension, brakes, transmission and rear
end to handle the additional power. Pay me now or pay me later sort of
thing smiling smiley

The 300-I6 has been primarily a truck engine. I have one in my '91 F150 with
EFI .The 6 makes a little less HP than the truck 5.0 but has more torque. I
prefer it to a 5.0 in my truck as I had a 5.0 in the '88 F150 I had before the
current '91. I think it might be to long to fit in the Mustang ........even if
it would it would most likely be more work than switching to a V8........swaps
are never easy ......V8's have been installed in Mustangs from the
beginning.......I doubt a 300 I6 has been a popular swap ......therefore any
parts needed to adapt it would have to be custom made.......custom fabrication
= $$$$$ . Just my thoughts ...I'm not an expert .....just an enthusiast

I usuualy read and not get into the conversation but, it seems to me that I saw a early
eighties f150 with a six. It had an offy maifold and a ford exaust. I think the exaust
was from a turbo six from a seventies truck. The owner said it was a strong engine You
might check with Offenhouser on the intake. my memory says that it was a square bore
holley manifold. hope this helps. That truck sounded strange but seemed to work well
with all that weight it was dragging around(f150/camper shell the size of a house )
