3 wire delco alternator installation

I have a three wire Delco alternator and want to use a reproduction Ford
voltage regulator ( I like electro mechanical stuff, looks right too). Can
anyone tell me how to bypass the voltage regulator in the Delco alternator?

Either one of those sights are pretty good....I just converted mine to
the 3 wire Delco....

Should have used a Ford IC type. A bit harder to wire up, but it's smaller
than the GM and the wire colors are the same even after 30 years. Either
way, (If I remember) the "I" feed comes from the igniton, which is the
green/red wire at the regulator. Cut that and/or splice in at the
regulator. The other wire (in the two wire connector) goes to batt. hot
and the big one goes is the battery charge feed. I removed the
yellow/black that runs from the reg to alt. on my swap. 'Course, I pulled
the regulator and all unnecessary wiring out.

I'd have to disagree that a Delco alternator looks right in a Ford. I also
found that it won't fit on later (69 up) small blocks because the alt
mounts higher up on the head and the GM is too thick (pulley to bearing).
Does fit those 289's with the alt sitting way out there. The Ford IC type
(mid 80's) with the piggy back regulator does fit and charges very well at
low speeds. Even the escort models put out 65A. Made the swap on the
Falcon and I'm going to do it on the Mustang as soon as I can find another
(1st cost $25 at the yard).

Well, rather than being COMPLETELY negative about
the GM thing, I'd have to say you sure can't
argue about their availability and inexpensive
replacement cost. The later Ford alts are mucho
expensive to have rebuilt ($75 locally), although
I found a site that sells a complete rebuild kit
for about $36. And both the IC and GM are pretty
easy to work
on.
