Hey, I finally got that intake installed this weekend that I bought from John those many months ago. Works great now that I got it sealed & gasketed correctly. Nice to have the 4bbl instead of the 2bbl. Still having a few fine-tuning issues, but I will work them out. I've got some great friends that helped me with the project.

Don't tell Chris Kelly but the one I got from him is still on my
workbench
....because I haven't put forth the effort/dough/etc to
find an AutoLite 4100 with the 1.08 venturis for affordable...soon
though!
In your humble opinion what do you notice right away from the switch?
Other than the gas gauge moving toward E faster...

Well, I think I got this one about a year ago. Somebody gave me a brand-new
Edelbrock 1406 (how could I pass that up?). Just having a few issues with
getting it at just the right idle speed at stop lights. Cruises nicely,
passes people with ease, idles a bit erratic at stops. Thinking the timing
might still need a tweak or the distributor might need to be advanced just a
bit. It's been an interesting conversion for sure.

I saw that!
The Ed carbs work well on the cars. If you didn't block the exhaust
crossovers when you installed the intake, you will probably want to install
a heat shield under the carb. The iron intakes get hot and you can have
heat soak issues with the Ed carbs. Other than that, they run well and
should not get any worse mileage. Until you get to liking the extra
"passing power" that is.

The two end exhaust ports were already blocked off in casting. They pretty
much looked the same as the 2bbl one I took off. The carb is sitting on a
one-inch phenolic spacer so the wide footprint will clear my stock valve
covers. Had to get some even longer carb studs with wrenchable ends because
the ones that came with the spacer were still kinda short and I was tired of
playing the jam nut game with each of them. One thing I discovered though.
The carb is missing the idle adjustment screw and spring. I don't know
whether it fell off or if it wasn't there when I got it. Anyway, going out
into the garage tonight to look for it. Hopefully, I will find it. If not,
there is a substitute one that I can use. So until I can get that on there,
it idles really fast. Disconnected the electric choke. Didn't seem to really
matter whether it was hooked up or not.

You pretty much have to have that. They are not generic, you'll have to
source a replacement from Edelbrock. It's pulling air and fuel through that
port, which will result in a fast idle that you can't do much to cure. PS -
they don't just fall out, if the carb has been that little cared for I would
replace both idle screws and springs along with the accelerator pump
diaphragm assembly. The accel pump should be replaced every so often
anyway.

The accel pump should be replaced every so often
anyway.
