Is anyone reproducing the 1970 Mach 1 decklid letters yet? The limited
supply of NOS sets are selling for upwards of $200 for a complete set,
ouch! Has anyone had any luck restoring their used originals?

Scott, I've noticed two repo styles. One has an adhesive/sticky
backing. The other has two metal tabs that go through the deck lid.
They're about $13-18 each. I got mine from CJ's Pony Parts.

Watch out for the repos with the tabs, several of the letters did not line
up properly on my trunk lid. Ended up rechroming the old ones.

Here's some up-to-the-minute info on these letters:
CJ Pony Parts (800.888.6473) has a limited supply of original stick-on
letters for $24.95 each.
Virginia Classic Mustang (540.896.2695) has the original stick-on "1"
available for $15.30 each.
NPD (Carolina depot, 800.368.6451) has a repro available for $7 or so
each, but these aren't stick-ons, they mount using tabs and require
drilling. I imagine that it might be possible to remove the tabs
and stick them on somehow, but I haven't seen the repros to confirm that
they can be modified.

Scott,
Just a thought, if you were to 'restore' yours or buy new ones
w/ tabs (then grind the tabs off) You'd still have letters w/
no sticky on the back.
I've seen this stuff body shops use to put chrome letters
and what-not back on after a paint job. Comes in a tube like
gasket goo. But if applied wrong can look like crap. YMMV.
