Hi,
Need some advise. I'm looking at a car that has a 289 that was rebuilt for
the current owner. It has 150 miles on it. Current owner has let car sit
for about 6 years. Says the builder went 060 over in it, against his
wishes. He says to compensate, he put in the 4 row radiator.
Overall, the car seems to be a fair value, even if the motor will nor survive.
So, opinions please, is this to far to go with a 289 block? Will it
overheat regularly?

I have a 67 coupe with a .060" over 302. It runs hot all the time. Have
done all the stuff, 4 row radiator, cooling shroud, water wetter, high
dollar water pump, different fan configurations, different thermostats from
no thermostat to 180 (160 works the best) etc. In the winter it runs about
5/8 in the spring, summer, fall it runs at ¾ or better and in traffic it
hits the peg. IMCO a .060" over small block should be against the law.
I"ll never have another one bored this much.
AAMOF last night this engine loss all compression in #7 cylinder with only
60,000 miles since rebuild. The block will be at the core exchange/sell
place next week.

Actually... A few months ago I built a 289 for my neighbor's '68, and it was
done .060" over. He hasn't had any sort of overheating problems whatsoever. Put
